Born in Greenville County, SC, he was the son of the late James Hilliard and Catherine Branson Austin. Mr. Austin was a retired purchasing manager for Holly Oak Chemical and a charter member of White Oaks Baptist Church on Fairforest Way. He was a deacon and former song director. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was in the Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Chadwick Ronald Austin and wife, Jessica Morton Austin of Simpsonville, SC; a grandson, Trenton Ronald Austin; mother-in-law, Vera Jones of Simpsonville, SC; and three sisters-in-law, Becky Rice and husband, Cotton, Rachel Jones, and Judy Jones.
