Leonard J. Schroeder, 73, R.R.9, Greensburg, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1987, at his home. He had been in ill health for six months.
He was born in Decatur County May 2, 1914, the son of John and Elizabeth Trilling Schroeder. He was a retired farmer and former motor route driver for the Greensburg Daily News. A U.s. Army veteran of World War II, he served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he was a cantor, a eucharistic minister and a CCD teacher. He belonged to the Knights of St. John, of the uniform rank the Knights of Columbus, the Greensburg American Legion, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and the Greensburg Senior Citizens. He was also a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. He attended the Seminary at St. Meinrad.
He is survived by two sisters, Sister Agnes Cecile Schroeder, Indianapolis and Sister Marie Schroeder, Greensburg; and 21 nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Geis officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, Greensburg, from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorials go to the Knights of St. John Building Fund or to the Mary's Building Fund.
