Gordon Lewis Adams, 70, of Monroe, Mich. and formerly of Worland, died on Jan. 27, 2008 at his daughter's home in Monroe, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1938 in Rapid City, S.D., a son of Elmer and Thelma (Carter) Adams. The family moved to Worland in September of 1948 and Gordon attended schools in Worland where he graduated from Washakie County High School in 1956.

Gordon then entered the U. S. Navy in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960.

He married Elma Jean Staley in Worland on July 14, 1957. Following his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Lander, to work as a meat cutter. He next worked in Worland for Jon's Market before moving his family to California in 1966 where he worked for Safeway and Vons grocery stores. He was a member of the Meat Cutters Local 421 in Bell Gardens, Calif. He retired after more than 40 years in the meat cutting business. He moved to Monroe, Mich. in July 2005.

Gordon enjoyed bowling at Nortel Lanes in Monroe and visiting the MGM Casino in Detroit. He was an avid baseball fan and counted the L.A. Dodgers and the Detroit Tigers as his favorite teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elma Jean on April 22, 2005; two brothers, James Adams and Floyd "Artie" Adams.

Gordon is survived by his four children, Cindy (Gary) Otter of Monroe, Mich., Nancy Jones and Karen Adams of Bell Gardens, Calif. and Jimmy Adams of Visalia, Calif.

He is also survived by his brother Orville (Yvette) Adams of Riverton; by his sisters, Linda (Gene "Frog") Roessing of Worland and Delylah Felton of Lander; by five grandchildren, Sandee, Scott, Matthew, Stephanie and Johanna; by four great-grandchildren and one expected great-grandchild; by his uncle Floyd (Merle) Adams of Worland; and several other family members in the Worland area.

Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in LaSalle, Mich.
