Grace M. Bechtol, 82, of 229 Eaton Ave., Eaton, died Tuesday morning, June 7, at her home after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 4, 1911, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter of Ernest L. and Ruth E. (Reid) Brown. She was raised in the New Paris area and was co-owner/operator of Bechtol's Grocery on North Barron Street for 46 years until the store closed in 1988.

Preceding her in death were two grandchildren, Harold James Bechtol, in 1948, and Beverly Lee Bechtol, in 1949; and two great-grandchildren, Karl VanEpps and Jason Brawn.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Carl C. Bechtol; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald E. and Phyllis J. Bechtol of Cave Creek, Ariz., Carl M. and Patty J. Bechtol Sr. of Eaton; one brother, Willard L. Brown of Eaton. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jane Ann Bechtol, Gerald Joseph Bechtol, Susan Barre, Carl M. Bechtol, Jr., Beth Marie Soule, Ruth Margaret Leighton, Deborah Faye Murray and Robert Lee Bechtol; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday, June 9, at Memorial Baptist Church, Eaton, with the Rev. L. Keith Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home – Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society-Preble County Unit.
