Funeral services for Alphia Betty Easterwood Adams, 87 of Carthage, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in the Hawthorn Funnel Home Chapel with reverend Dale Reed officiating. Interment followed at Youngblood Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Adams died Sunday, February 3, 2008 in Carthage.
Mrs. Adams was born January 16, 1921 in Fort Towson, Oklahoma. She was one of seven children born to the marriage of James Albert and Nora Dunn Easterwood. She was raised in the Baptist faith, schooled in Fort Towson and attended South East Oklahoma University in Durant, Oklahoma. She met and married Eugene Debb Adams August 1, 1942 and they celebrated almost 52 years together before his death in December of 1993. Mrs. Adams spent her life as a loving homemaker to her husband their two daughters and was a talented and known seamstress. Her kindheartedness and uplifting spirit will be missed. She is also preceded in death by her brother; James Easterwood and sisters; Rachael Easterwood, Rosie Lang and Ella Mae Cawley.
She is survived by her loving daughters Charlotte Woods and husband Charlie, of Carthage, and Shirlene Holcomb Daniel and husband Johnny, of Palestine; brother Bill Easterwood and wife Virginia, of Fort Towson, OK; sister Helen Latham, of Ft. Worth; grandchildren Eric Holcomb and wife Niki, of Carthage, and Shane Hartless and wife Candice, of Tatum; great-grandchildren Bre'Anna and Kaden Holcomb; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Shane Hartless, Eric Holcomb, Charles Holcomb, Mitch Holcomb, Bob Thomas, Carl Oney, Jimmy Woods and Smokey Smith.
