Maggie was another animal lover friend. She grew up on the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation in upstate New York. She never tired of her quest to help the animals. She would even give rabies shots to racoons. Always had a sense of humor and would do anything to help an animal or someone who needed help with a stray.

Margaret Louise "Maggie" Abbott, age 67, died January 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Daughter of the late Grover and Dorothy Stanley and born in Mass., Maggie has lived in Melrose, N.Y. for over 40 years. Maggie had been employed by Sangamon Mills, Cohoes and worked for many years as an aid for visiting nurses. She was founder and owner of Maggie's Cats in Melrose and, over the years, had rescued hundreds of cats who were adopted to many families. She is survived by her sons, Gerald Whitney (Janice) of Troy, Wayne (Snoopy) Whitney of Albany; one daughter, Mary Jean (MJ) Whitney of Troy; and a stepdaughter, Kelly Canfield of Cohoes. Friends and relatives may attend a memorial service on February 16, 2008, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian-American Club, 1 Pulaski Ave., Cohoes, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Maggie's Cats, First Niagara Bank, Troy, NY 12182.
