Walter "Bud" Willis Eaton passed from this life to a better one, at his home, January 29, 2008.
Bud was born the 27th of March 1926 in Newton County, Missouri to Sherman Leslie Eaton and Hope Marie (Sanders) Eaton. They preceded him in death.
He grew up in the Jones Chapel area and attended Waddle grade school and Midway High School. Walter was drafted into the United States Army in September 1944. Sgt. Eaton served in the Pacific theater, Leyette Island in the Philippines and Japan occupied territory.
Bud was employed by the Missouri State Highway Department as a Negotiator and Appraiser for 27 years, retiring in 1988 because of ill health. He was named employee of the month in August 1987.
Walter was a charter member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Joplin. He served the church in many capacities, an ordained deacon, trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, Treasurer, and usher. He served on the Executive Board of Indian Creek Association. He was faithful and loyal to his church and denomination. He was involved in his community, manager of a Little League Baseball team, served as trustee and Building Inspector for the Village of Sunnyvale. He loved people, and was always a good neighbor and friend.
He married Lillie D. Hutchings, February 25, 1945 in Columbus, Kansas, she survives. Four children survive; one son and three daughters: Dr. Timothy and Martha Eaton of Norman, Oklahoma, Claudia and Kokher Carter of Joplin, Jan Bledsoe of Nixa, MO, Marta and Marshall Greenman of Plano, Texas and Harsova Romania. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Will Carter, Magan Wood, Haley Ferguson, Tara Swinford, Leah Logan, Hope Eaton, Cory Bledsoe; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Hart of Neosho, Colleen and brother-in-law Lester Reynolds of Weslaco, TX; three brothers-in-law, Claude and Mildred Hutchings, John and Dorthalene Hutchings and Lester "Max" Hutchings; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 1 at Parker Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Generations Free Will Baptist Church, 2301 Connecticut. The Reverend Gerald Bass, the Reverend Jim Shepherd, and the Reverend Jim Williams will officiate. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Will Carter, Mathew Logan, Brian Ferguson and Steve Swinford; and sons-in-law, Kokher Carter and Marshall Greenman.
