Chelan – Arthur C. Campbell, Sr., 84, a pioneer resident of Chelan, died Saturday morning at his home following a short illness.
Mr. Campbell was born on May 5, 1888, at Sioux City, Iowa, and came to Chelan with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Campbell, in 18889. The Elder Mr. Campbell started the original Campbell Hotel in 1901.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the first graduating class of Chelan High School in 1908. He attended the University of Washington and was graduated in 1914 with a degree in law. While attending the University he was affiliated with Delta Upsilon fraternity. He was a member of the Husky Crew from 1911 – 1913 and was on the first crew that rowed at Poughkeepsi, N. Y., for the University of Washington.
Mr. Campbell was an Army veteran of World War I, serving as an infantry sergeant in France. Following his discharge he was married to Anne Monfort at Spokane in 1918 and they made their home at Chelan. His first wife died in 1958. In 1964 he was married to Mabel Townsend Eminger.
Mr. Campbell was active in the apple industry since the 1920s and has also been active in the operation of Campbell's Lodge until his death. He had been an active member of the American Legion, Post, 108.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel; two sons, Dan and Arthur Jr., both of Chelan and five grandchildren.
Services are under direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
