John Daniel "J.D." Burgsteiner
Blackshear, Pierce County, GA

Mr. John Daniel "J.D." Burgsteiner, 38, passed away suddenly Sunday morning, January 20, 2008, in Winter Haven, (Polk County) Florida.

Born in Ware County, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life until moving to Macon four years ago. He was a 1987 graduate of Pierce County High School where he was an outstanding baseball player. Following high school he attended the Middle Georgia College where he also played baseball. J. D. had worked for Pepsi for several years and had also worked for Team Sports following his move to Macon. He was currently working as a sales representative for the Sign Station. J. D. loved to hunt and play golf and was just an all around avid sportsman. For the past several years he had played in several Professional Softball Associations where he had won many awards including being ranked in the top 50 in the nation for homerun hitters in 2007. J. D. was preceded in death by his father, John Mcree Burgsteiner his maternal grandfather Cecil Sweat and his paternal grandparents, Alton & Gladys "Boo" Burgsteiner.

Survivors are his mother and step-father, Brenda & Wayne Sasser of Blackshear; his maternal grandmother, Claris Sweat of Blackshear; his aunt, Elaine & Joey Carter of Blackshear; three uncles, Keith Sweat of Jacksonville, FL and Scott & Paige Sweat and Stevie Sweat all of Blackshear; his great uncle, Bobby & Quen Buie of Blackshear; two cousins, Lindsay & Tony Wright of Lyons and Chad Carter of Blackshear and numerous other cousins and friends.

Funeral services for J. D. will be held Friday afternoon, January 25, 2008, at 2:00 o'clock from the First United Methodist Church.

Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.

Visitation for J. D. will be held Thursday evening from 5 until 9 at the funeral home.

J. D. will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be the PCHS Class of 1987 and all fellow ball players and teammates. Everyone should meet at the church by 1:30 Friday afternoon.
