Nettie P. Theisen, 86, of the Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, Iowa, formerly of 3254 Stoffel Road, Bernard, died peacefully at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Shady Rest, surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Parish, New Melleray, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where the parish wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m.

She was born on June 2, 1921, at St. Catherine, daughter of Clarence and Mamie (Nesler) Heacock.

Nettie attended eight years of school in a one-room rural school. She married LaVerne P. Theisen on April 8, 1942, at St. Catherine's Church. He died June 1, 1958.

Nettie and her husband farmed in the Bernard area. She left the farm in 2000, when she moved to Cascade.

She was a member of Holy Family Parish at New Melleray. She liked to fish and go on the river on Sundays. Nettie was a very loving mother, grandmother and friend, who had a heart of gold. She especially enjoyed sledding and playing games with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivor are five daughters, Darlene L. (Kenny) Ahrndt, of Monticello, Erma M. (Loras) Soppe, of Cascade, Connie M. (Ronnie) Bries, of Peosta, Judy K. (David) O'Dell, of Bernard, Iowa, Sally J. (Al) Trenary, of Stover, Mo.; a son, Dale L. (Sherry) Theisen, of Bernard, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Aaron (Arlice) Heacock, of La Motte.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant daughter, Janet; a great grandson, Jack Bries, a sister, Ella Brainbridge, and two brothers, Alvin and Alfred Heacock.
