Professional Football Player. For twelve seasons (1951 to 1962), he played at the left-end, tight-end and kicker positions in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles. Born Robert Harold Walston, he attended Linden-McKinley High School (Ohio) and played collegiate football at the University of Georgia. Selected by Philadelphia during the 14 round of the 1951 NFL Draft, he achieved All-Pro status and was named NFL Rookie of the Year (1951). During the course of his career, Walston proved invaluable to the Eagles as he was a productive receiver recording a career-high 11 touchdowns in 1954. That same year, he topped the league with his 114 points as a kicker. He was a key contributor to the Eagles' squad which captured the 1960 NFL Title and kicked a crucial field goal in a game against Cleveland during their run to the championship. In 148 regular season games, he compiled 311 receptions for 5,363 yards with 46 touchdowns and amassed 881 total points as a kicker. Following his playing career, Walston remained in the sport to serve as a scout with the Chicago Bears and later in the United States Football League.
