Professional Football Player. For eleven seasons (1953 to 1956, 1958 to 1964), he played at the defensive tackle position in the National and American Football Leagues with the Philadelphia Eagles and Boston Patriots. Born Jesse William Richardson, he attended Philadelphia's Roxborough High School and played collegiate football at the University of Alabama. While with the Crimson Tide, he was a member of the team that captured the Orange Bowl title with a 61 to 6 rout of Syracuse in 1953. He was chosen by Philadelphia during the 8th round of the 1953 NFL Draft and appeared in 139 career regular season games. He was a member of the 1960 NFL Champion Eagles' squad, earning NFL All Pro status two-times (1959 to 1961) and Pro Bowl selection in 1959. After retiring as a player, Richardson served as an assistant coach for the Patriots and Eagles. He died in Philadelphia from kidney disease at the age of 44.
