AMANDA CROCKRELL [sic] AMES
Amanda Perlina Crockrell [sic], daughter of Thomas and Keziah Crockrell [sic], was born April 9, 1856 in Cass county, Mo. and died March 17, 1947 in a Manhattan hospital at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 8 days. She grew to young womanhood in southern Missouri where she met and married William Oliver Ames. To this union were born eight children, four dying in infancy.
The family moved to Kansas in 1884 and to Riley county in 1909. They had made their home in Riley for a number of years at the time of Mr. Ames death in 1928. Mrs. Ames had made her home in Manhattan at the Jolley Nursing home for the last six years.
Surviving are two daughters, Cora Mathews of St. George, and Vesta Dittamore of Ravenwood, Mo., two sons Harvey and Jesse, both of Manhattan, 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and two brothers, Lum of Montana, a twin to her, and Grant of California.
