A memorial service for Ivan Luis Barrientos-Monzon, 65, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey Funeral Home. Cremation is planned, and private inurnment will be in Pioneer Cemetery on the Kansas University campus.

Mr. Barrientos-Monzon, a KU professor of educational policy and administration, died Wednesday, March 24, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center, Topeka.

He was born April 28, 1927, in Quezaltenango, Guatemala, the son of Ricardo Barrientos and Olimpia Monzon.

Mr. Barrientos-Monzon received bachelor's degrees from the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, and master's and doctorate degrees in education philosophy from Michigan State University. He came to the United States with his family in 1963.

Mr. Barrientos-Monzon joined the KU faculty in 1966 as a research associate and visiting assistant professor in the School of Education. From 1968 to 1969 he directed the Inter-American Institute in San Antonio, and he returned to KU in 1969 as an associate professor of education.

He was selected an Outstanding Educator of America in 1972 and received a KU chancellor's award for excellence in teaching in 1975, the year the program began, and a chancellor's award for distinguished teaching in 1991.

Mr. Barrientos-Monzon married Adriana Ethelmira Arroyo on Oct. 5, 1956, in Guatemala.

Survivors include his wife, Adriana, of the home; a daughter, Lili, Lawrence; a son, Rick, Sonoma, Calif.; three brothers, Guido, El Paso, Tex.; Sergio and Tomas, Guatemala City.
