Bryon DeBord Called Suddenly, Heart Attack
Bryon DeBord, 59, prominent Princeville resident, died suddenly at his late home in Princeville. His death was attributed to a heart ailment and complications.
Hundreds of farmers throughout this are came to know Mr. DeBord very intimately during the war. Early in 1943, he was appointed assistant manager of the Wyoming hemp plant by the War Hemp Industries created as a war-time agency to provide for the manufacture of ropes and cordages for the armed forces. Working with Code M. Cahill of Bradford who was the manage of the local hemp fiber processing mill, Mr. DeBord assisted in the supervision of the growing of nearly 4000 acres of hemp in this area.
Mr. DeBord at the time of his death was a member of the Peoria-Tazewell rent control board, with offices n the federal building in Peoria. He was an active member of the Democratic party and his advice was sought by party leaders on many occasions. He was also very cordial in his dealings with his fellow men and his passing will be missed by many who sought his in the solving of agricultural problems at which he was very adept. Throughout his entire life he was engaged in farming or in the operation of farms in the Princeville area.
From 1937 to 1943 he served as assistant director of the Illinois State department of agriculture.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. DeBord and was born in Princeville in 1889. He grew to young manhood in the Princeville community, attending grade and high schools of the community. His father served as a member of the Peoria county board of supervisors for many years. He was a member of the Mohammed Shrine of Peoria.
He was married to the former Latha Dunn in 1922 in a ceremony performed at Stark. To this union were born four sons, three of whom survive. A son William receded his father in death.
Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons, Dr. Robert DeBord of Peoria, John DeBord of Princeville and Richard DeBord of Glen Rock, N.Y., and a sister, Mrs. Bess Hale, an English instructor at Peoria high school.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday in the Princeville Presbyterian church, with Rev. Arnold Diazell, pastor in charge. Burial was in the Princeville cemetery.
Serving are pallbearers were O. H. Stumpf, W. R. Cordis, Elza Graves, Frank Graves, Bryon Wear and Ray P. Callery.
