Funeral services for Barney Atkins, 45, a prominent resident of Jonesville, who died in a Natchez hospital Dec. 10, were held at 3 p.m., Dec. 11, at the First Baptist Church of Jonesville with the Rev. J. O. McNair conducting the final rites.
Interment was in the Harrisonburg Cemetery.
Atkins was the owner of Central Building Company and Atkins Novelty Company, both of Jonesville, and also held a large amount of real estate. He participated actively in all activities of Block High School of Jonesville, was a member of the First Baptist Church, Three Rivers Masonic Lodge, a chapter member of the Jonesville Lions Club and was a member of the Jonesville Town Council at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, his mother, one brother and one sister.

Barney Atkins, Prominent In Jonesville, Dies
FERRIDAY, Dec. 10 (Special) - Funeral services for Barney Atkins, 45, a prominent resident of Jonesville, who died in a Natchez hospital Monday, will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Jonesville with Rev. J. O. McNair officiating. Interment under the direction of Youngs Funeral Home of Tallulah will be in the Harrisonburg cemetery.
Atkins was the owner of Central Building Supply Company and Atkins Novelty Company, both of Jonesville. He also was a holder of a large amount of real estate. He particitipated actively in all activities of Block High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesville, Three Rivers Lodge No. 369, a member of the Town Council and a charter member of the Lions Club. He was also an active participant in all civic activities.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Levia Atkins; two sons, Barney Atkins Jr., and William Atkins, both of Jonesville; one daughter, Ginger Nell Atkins, of Jonesville; his mother, Mrs. Ida Atkins of Ball, LA.; one brother, Louis Atkins of Paducah, Kentucky; and one sister, Mrs. Velma Quinn of Ball, La.
Active pallbearers are Marcus Bennett, Hayven Wiley, A. E. Benson, Jr., John E. Stutson, Howard Tarpley, Jesse Bowman, Cliff Carl Wilson, Jr., Roscoe Wilson, and Sammy Atkins.
Honorary pallbearers are the mayor and members of the Town Council, members of the Masonic Lodge, members of the Lions Club, and all other close friends.
