Rev. Stoney Found Dead In His Home

The Rev. William Henry Stoney, a retired minister
, Joplin route 3, was found dead in his home by a neighbor at about 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Mr. Stoney had been ill several years and was under the care of a physician.

Mr. Stoney, who had resided in Joplin the last 28 years, was one of the founders of the First Gospel Workers church in Joplin. In 1918, he conducted a revival meeting with the Rev. Johnny Booe, father of the Rev. Dow. Booe, in the northwest part of Joplin. From that meeting, they founded the First Gospel Workers church, and in 1920, purchased the present church building at 1463 Perkins avenue.

Mr. Stoney pastored churches in Cave Springs, Mo., Badger, Kan., St. Joseph and Carl Junction. He retired from the ministry several years ago.

His wife, Mrs. Nellie Stoney, died October 11, 1961.

Survivors' include three daughters, Mrs. Beatrice McKnight, Stevinson, Calif., Mrs. Edith Millard, Pico Rivera, Calif., and Mrs. Izetta Duncan, Joplin route 3; a son, Willard Stoney, Montebello, Calif.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements will be announced by the Hurlbut-Glover mortuary.

Mrs. Storey [Stoney] leaves a husband and a son, Earl, and father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Blodget and two sisters, Mrs. Charles King and Mrs. Orfie Baysinger. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the residence and will be in charge of the Woodman Cirvle [Circle]. Burial will be made in the Oak Hill cemetery.

Funeral Services Will Be in Charge
of Woodmen Circle.

Mrs. Nell Stoney, wife of William Stoney
, died at her home, No. 1011 Joplin street, at 8 o'clock yesterday morning. She was 32 years old and had been sick about two years.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the residence, under auspices of the Woodmen Circle. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

All members of the Woodman's circle are requested to meet at the hall at 1 o'clock promptly to attend the funeral of Sovereign Stoney.
