I know very little of Mattie. She has a twin sister named Mary. I know this from the 1900 census record where Mattie is living with her sister and brother in law Samuel and Mary Dunaway (it looks like Dunaway in the census but it should be Dunnavant). I am confused though as dates for births do not match. Also living in the same house as boarders are my Great Uncle Bill Widner and his wife Ella. Mattie is listed as a widow.

Mattie is the daughter of Wiley and Sarah Ann Rogers. The 1870 census shows them to be 5 years old so that still doesn't match what the tombstone has. I guess we will never know for sure the right birth date. I have not located Mary or Sam Dunnavant since the 1900 census. Maybe that family will hold answers if I ever find them. I personnaly think she was born 10 February 1865.

With the help of a FAG member who saw this I have discovered why I was never able to find Sam and Mary Rogers Dunaway. It seems the census has the wrong name. It should read Dunnavant. There is a Tennessee marriage record for Sam Dunnavant and Mary Rogers and I am 99% sure this is the same couple.
