Enlisted on 4-21-61 in the Loudoun Artillery CSA at Leesburg, VA. Present on muster rolls thru Oct. 1861. Promoted to 1st. Lt. Served as a volunteer aide on Gen. Early's staff on 12-15-62. Joined 43rd Va. Cav. Inv. in 1-10-64 Loudoun Heights fight; 5-17-64 fight at Waterford; and 7-4-64 raid on Point of Rocks, Md. Along with Fountain Beattie, delivered a message to Gen. Early on 7-5-64 at Sharpsburg, Md. advising of Mosby's success at Point of Rocks and offering support for Early's operations. Involved in 9-4-64 capture of one of Crook's ambulance trains between Harpers Ferry, W. Va., and Winchester, 10-13-64 skirmishes on the Valley Pike between Winchester and Martinsburg, W. Va.; 10-14-64 "Greenback Raid" on the B&O FIR near Duffield Station, Jefferson Co., W. Va.; and 11-18-64 fight at Myerstown, Jefferson Co., W. Va. Paroled on 5-11-65 at Edward's Ferry, Md.
Age 31, 5'- 8 1/4", light complexion, light hair, fair eyes.
