Funeral services for Arthur S. Petersen were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1985 at the Mullen Funeral Home. He passed away Monday at Colonial Manor Nursing Home where he had lived since 1979. Rev. Max Hall officiated and music was by Mrs. Gene Hackwell organist and Mrs. Neil Aupperle, soloist. Pallbearers were Lars Christensen, Joe Newell, Raymond Schellenberg, Anton Petersen, Rodney Petersen and Fred Schellenberg. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Anita.
Arthur S. Petersen was born in Shelby County near Elk Horn on May 23, 1897, son of Anton and Anna Smith Petersen. He grew up in that area where he attended rural schools until 1909 when he moved with his family north of Anita where he finished his formal schooling.
During WWI he served in the Army. After returning from the service, he farmed north of Anita until going to Montana in 1924 where he worked on dairy farms. In 1932 he returned to Anita where he started farming his parents farm for several years before moving south of Anita where he farmed for himself. He later moved to his own farm where he stayed until retiring in 1970 to Anita and later Atlantic.
Surviving are forty three nieces and nephews.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Mary Salmonsen, Christena Nelson. Anna Josephsen, Martha Josephsen, Gena Jensen. and Clara Peterson; and four brothers, Pete, Hans, Andrew and Anton Petersen.
