Avery Dowell Bomar passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, in McKinney.

He was born May 4, 1918, in Melissa, Texas, as the second of three sons born to Elmer and Daisy Bomar. He married Hilda Cox of Springdale, W.Va., and the two were married for 63 years. He was a faithful member of the High Pointe Church of Christ in McKinney, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He was a civil servant for 31 years, working at the Veterans Hospital in McKinney and the U. S. Treasury Department in Dallas. He then worked for the Allen school district until he retired from work in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Cox Bomar, of McKinney; three sons, Forrest Dowell Bomar and wife, Rita, of Garland, Texas, George Wayne Bomar and wife, Judy, of Austin, Texas, and Byron Lee Bomar and wife, Lisa, of Garland; a brother, Forrest Rodgers Bomar and wife, Lee, of Palestine, Texas; six grandchildren, Matthew Bomar and wife, Shannon, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mark Bomar and wife, Ashleigh, of Buda, Texas, Velvet Jordan and husband, Thomas, of Royse City, Texas, Luke Bomar of Austin, Texas, and Michelle McClain and Mitchell McClain of Garland; and one great-grandchild, Riley Bomar, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

He will always be remembered, and cherished, as a loyal and loving husband, a caring and devoted father and grandfather, a dedicated public servant to his country and community, a kind and gentle friend and neighbor and a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in McKinney, Texas with Rev. Tom Gaumer officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation at 6 p.m. Saturday.
