Carrie Bucek

Carrie Louise Bucek, age 94, of Wharton, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at SPJST Rest Home No. 2 in Needville. She was born on Nov. 27, 1913 in East Bernard, the daughter of the late William Schattel and Karolina Morris Schattel.

Mrs. Bucek was reared in East Bernard, but moved to Wharton in 1929. She married Charlie Bucek Jr. on Oct. 4, 1934 in Wharton and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1986. She was a graduate of Caney Valley Hospital Nursing School. Mrs. Bucek worked as an LVN at Caney Valley Hospital, then at Bucek's Phillips 66 Service Station, and finally working with her husband at Bucek Auto Parts for more than 30 years until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Holy Family Altar Society, and a member of the Wharton County Historical Museum. Mrs. Bucek enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Schramm, Lydia Hinze, Ann Cervenka, Sister Gertrude Schattel and Margaret Di Iorio; and brothers, Ed Schattel, Ben Schattel, Bill Schattel, Albert Schattel, and George Schattel.

Funeral mass of Christian burial will be held today, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Bucek officiating with concelebrants Rev. Dominic Antwi Boasiako, Rev. Ed Kucera and Deacon Gerald Dupont officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. A rosary and Christian wake service was held on Tuesday evening, Dec. 18, 2007 at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyne Bucek of Wharton; sons, Charles Lynn Bucek and wife Charlotte of East Bernard, Edwin Bucek and wife Margaret and David Bucek and wife Janie, all of Wharton, Michael Bucek and wife Johnnie Sue of Arlington and Rev. Timothy Bucek of Bellville and Industry; sisters, Clementine Barton of Houston and Willie Mae Bruce of Paris, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are her grandchildren.
