Born December 2, 1914, Raphael Charles Sagrera, 93, died December 18, 2007 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Mausoleum. Arrangements entrusted to Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles, Abbeville.

Ralph was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard who served our country during World War II. He also served with the Swamp Angels to help guard the Louisiana coast during war time. Mr. Sagrera was a former City Councilman with the City of Abbeville. In 1939 he begin dealing with fur and alligator hides. He also was a cattle rancher owning his own farm.

He is survived by his wife, Rowena Broussard Sagrera of Abbeville; four sons, Ralph Sagrera and wife Kathy of New Orleans, Wayne Sagrera and wife Rose of Abbeville, Rodney Sagrera and wife Jan of Abbeville and David Sagrera of Abbeville; grandchildren, Monica Brown, Stephen Sagrera, Kevin Sagrera, Craig Sagrera, Raphael Sagrera, Brandon Sagrera and Hope Gaspard; great grandchildren, Laurie Sagrera, Bryce Sagrera, Gage Gaspard, Matthew Sagrera, Rebecca Sagrera, Jacob Sagrera, Sarah Sagrera, Grace Sagrera, Jackson Sagrera, Josh Sagrera, Logan Sagrera, Gabrielle Sagrera, Brennan Brown and Bryce Brown; and one sister, Zoe S. Lynch of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael Semmes Sagrera and the former Zoe Cessac; two daughters, Rebecca Sagrera and Stephanie Sagrera; one grandson, Mitchell Sagrera; two brothers, Anthony Sagrera and Lloyd Sagrera; and two sisters, Amanda S. Hanks and Olga S. Greene.
