TRAGIC DEATH OF B. R. BENTON, JR.
Funeral services were held for B. R. Benton, Jr., yesterday afternoon from his home a few miles south of Alamo.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. A. Kelly, assisted by Rev. Lum Morrison.
Mr. Benton was a son of Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Benton, Sr., met his death from an accident on the highway between Baxley and Hazlehurst on Tuesday afternoon previously when the truck he was driving ran into another truck. He was badly broken up and died a few hours after reaching the hospital in Hazlehurst.
Much sympathy is felt for his bereaved family whom have suffered other tragedies in the past. He was a young man, 32 years of age, and his sudden passing cast gloom over the entire county and community where he grew up and was known and liked by all. He was very pleasant and a kind hearted young man.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Benton, Sr., two brothers, Talmadge and Bernon Benton; four sisters Mrs. Malcolm Chesterfield, of New York City; Miss Elizabeth and Mrs. S. A. Ray, of this county and Mrs. Rod Thompson of Lumber City.
Interment was in the family cemetery, near the home.
Active pallbearers were: M. B. Sikes, Wm. D. Bright, Billie Kent, Wright Purvis, Roy Adams, and W. C. Pittman.
Honorary pallbearers were D. M. Graham, R. G. Jenkins, Foy Kent and Jack Gross.
