Mrs. John Bernhardt died shortly before 8 o'clock yesterday morning at St. Elizabeth hospital. She had been sick only a few days and her death comes as a great shock to her many friends. She was stricken by peritonitis last Friday and was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning. Her condition was critical from the first and she gradually grew weaker until the end came.

Mrs. Bernhardt was born in Pottsville, Pa., forty seven years ago and came to Lafayette when she was 12 years old. She was married to Mr. Bernhardt twenty one years ago, her maiden name being Clara Weiss. Mrs. Bernhardt was an active member of the English Lutheran church and will be greatly missed by that congregation. Besides the husband she leaves one daughter, Lillian Bernhardt, who is now on the vaudeville stage. She also is survived by a brother, August Weiss, of Shamokin, Pa.

The remains were taken to the Frank & Son establishment from the hospital to be prepared for burial and this noon will be taken to the home of Mrs. Barbara Bernhardt, 1334 Ferry street to await interment. The funeral will be held some time Saturday.
