John W. Conner was born April 08, 1808, in VA. to James Conner and Sarah Philips. He married Catharine and they resided in or around Delaware Co., OH by the 1840's. Between 1856-1857, they moved from there to Jasper Co., IA along with their daughters Sarah Jane (and her new husband Abyram L. Leonard), Elizabeth, and Harriet. They may have had other children who stayed in Ohio.
Soon after arriving, Sarah Jane (Conner) Leonard gave birth to her only child, a girl. Two and a half weeks later, Sarah Jane died. The baby girl was named after her mother and given to John W. & Catharine Conner to raise.
John W. died less than two years after his wife Catharine on February 29, 1884. They share a stone in Section 2, Row 15.
