Phillip "Bernie" Bernstein was the son of Harry Bernstein and Edith Dorothy Capstick. Harry was a Jewish immigrant from Russia and Dorothy an immigrant from London, England. As it turns out, Harry and Dorothy made their home in Fort Worth, Texas where Bernie was born and lived his entire life.

Bernie served our country in WWII as a SGT in the US Army. He served with the 41st Tank Battalion of the 11th Armored Division. The 41st was better known as The Thunderbolts. Bernie received a Purple Heart medal from injuries he sustained during the Battle of the Bulge.

Upon his return from the war, he worked and retired from General Dynamics and Bell Helicopter.

Although Phillip married several times, he had only one child. While married to Vivian Jean Lampman, he had one daughter, Sandra Kaye.

Bernie loved his home. He used to say people gasped while looking at the backyard. In later years, he reunited with Jean. She returned home with pictures she had left with some 40 years before. She proceeded to hang them in the same place they had been 40 years prior. She loved the house, too. Bernie never wanted to leave his home to go to a nursing home. He got his wish and was never far from 3521.
