Barbara Carolyn Crowell, 79, of Turlock died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Crowell was a native and lifelong resident of Turlock. She was a homemaker. In the 1980s, she was president of the Century Club, a fund-raising organization working on behalf of California State University, Stanislaus. She was a member of Republican Women. And she belonged to the Tuesday Reading Club, Frugals Investment Club and the Birthday Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church; she was a Sunday school teacher, she belonged to United Methodist Women, and she was chairwoman of the wedding committee.

She is survived by her husband, Verne Crowell of Turlock; children, Lynne Crowell of Stockton, and Michael Crowell and Gary Crowell, both of Turlock; sisters, Margaret Doyle of Turlock, Anna McCormick of Greenvalle, Ariz., Nancy Peterson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Patricia Buckman of Honolulu; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Allen Mortuary.

Remembrances may be made to Emanuel Medical Center, Hospice Account, Department of Development, in care of Susan Obert, 825 Delbon Ave., Turlock 95382.
