He was a JP (Justice of the Peace) who sat at Londonderry Court.
During rioting in the city during 1920 he was fearless in dealing with rioters and gained a reputation as being scrupulously impartial.
A native of Belfast, he succeeded his father, W.S. ANDERSON as superintendent in charge of the Prudential Assurance Company. He had already served at Portarlington, Kilkenny and Belfast before coming to Londonderry.
He served as a councillor for the north ward of Londonderry Corporaton from 1929 until 1938.
He took a keen interest in civic affairs and was chairman of the Tuberculosis Committee.
During the First World War he did noble work in the Red Cross organisation and was awarded the Belgian Medal by the Belgian Government for work in Derry among refugees from that country.
Other posts he held were as Chairman of the local YMCA and also of the Regatta Committee of the City of Derry Boating Club.

Margaret Ann ANDERSON (his wife) who died September 27th 1943.
William S. ANDERSON (his son) who died May 26th 1988. William was for many years organist of the Holy Trinity Church of Ireland in Culmore and he was an active member of the Londonderry Philharmonic Orchestra.
Muriel Plunket ANDERSON (his daughter) who died August 25th 1992. Muriel was the leader of the Londonderry Philharmonic Society orchestra.
According to a PRONI Will calendar search, at the time of his death he was living at 23, Aberfoyle Terrace, Londonderry and the value of his estate was just under £1500.
