Ellamae Mayfield

Ellamae "Ellie" Mayfield, a Prineville resident passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at her home, in Prineville, Oregon, from complications of A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease). She was 78 years old.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Prineville Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday February 26, 2007 at Prineville Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Ellie was born in Tillamook, Oregon on May 16, 1928, to Alfred Eugene "Pete" and Ella ‘Dolly' Margaret (Hiatt) Gabriel. Her mother died from complications of childbirth on May 17th, 1928. She was raised by her grandparents until 1931, when her father remarried to Ruth Irene Nelson of Tillamook. Ellie attended grade school in Tillamook until she was 10 years old, and then moved with her family to Washougal, Washington where she completed her education and graduated from Washougal High School, in 1946. She was active in the Rainbow girls in High School and was chosen ‘Worthy Advisor' for one year. After High School she attended Beauty School in Portland. She worked for her father in Gabriel's Red and White Grocery Store in Washougal, then worked for Carmack Insurance in Camas where she met Lawrence E. Mayfield as a customer & ended up dating and marrying him, in Washougal, Washington on September 19, 1948. They moved to Prineville in 1954. Ellie and her husband Lawrence owned and operated the Ochoco Hardware store for 39 years. After retirement, she was very active in the Prineville business community, serving as a volunteer ‘Pink Lady', and volunteered for Chamber of Commerce. Ellie was a member of the Prineville Christian Church and played the organ for many years. She was an accomplished pianist and taught piano lessons to many Prineville residents. She loved gardening, crafting, socializing, and spending time with the family. She typed letters to her family & friends weekly. Ellie is survived by her daughter; Mary Mayfield and son; Dave and his wife Michelle Mayfield both of Prineville, her brothers; Lyndon and his wife Carol Gabriel of Vancouver, Washington, and George and his wife Karen Gabriel of Beaverton, Oregon, sister; Diana and her husband Stan Loop of Lake Oswego, Oregon. A grandson; Mike Mayfield of Redmond, Oregon and a granddaughter Sarah Mayfield of Albany, Oregon. Numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband; Lawrence, (on Feb 10, 2007). Memorial contributions may be made to the Prineville Memorial Hospice at 1201 NE Elm St. Prineville, Oregon 97754, or Prineville Fire Dept.; 500 NE Belknap St. Prineville, Oregon 97754.
