Clarence Eugene Austin, 52, of the 900 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd., passed away Nov. 28, 2007, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. He was born Dec. 13, 1954, in Bremen, Germany, and was a 1973 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Portsmouth. He was previously employed by the City of Portsmouth as a survey engineer serving five years and recently, Clarence was employed by the City of Chesapeake Public Works for 13 years. In April 2007, he was honored as Storm Water Management Employee of the Month and in 2004-05 Chesapeake Public Works Team of the Year. He was predeceased by a daughter, Tashina Britton; his father, Leonard T. Austin Sr.; and a nephew, Deron Austin. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sheila Britton Austin; one son, Donyea Britton; three stepsons, Antrace Britton Sr. (Shakia), Marcus Britton and Ahmed Britton, both of Norfolk; his mother, Shirley Austin of Portsmouth; three sisters, Karen Anderson of Portsmouth, Terri Cartwright (Donald) of Chesapeake and Cynthia Austin of Portsmouth; one brother, Leonard T. Austin Jr. of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Demarje Banks, Jermeka Britton, Antrace Britton Jr., Antraya Britton and Kamora Hurst; a special aunt, Margaret Staten; a dear mother-in-law, Olivia N. Britton; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. The Rev. Gregory Chapman will officiate. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Portsmouth. Family and friends will assemble at 915 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. one hour prior to the service for the procession to the chapel.
