Eliza Ann is the daughter of
Arthur Schenck (1773-1848), and his
first wife Johanna ("Hanna") Sutphen
(also spelled "Sutphin") (1774-1828),
of Hunterdon County, New Jersey,
and later, of Somerville, in
Somerset County, New Jersey.
She was the 8th of their 12 children.
Note: Arthur's mother's maiden name
was also "Sutphen".

Eliza Ann Schenck was married
on Sept. 13, 1823
to William Amerman
(spelled with only two "m's" on his
headstone, per Witter Cemetery records,
and also, on his wife Eliza's headstone
in the Hamilton Church Cemetery).
William was the son of Abraham
("Abram") Amerman, who was a native of
Germany, and his wife Margaret Ryker.
William was born Oct. 22, 1802
in Somerset County, New Jersey.

in Bridgewater Twp., Somerset County
New Jersey in June of 1830 when their
eldest son Abraham was born, and living
in Somerville, Somerset Co. New Jersey
in March of 1834, when their daughter
Mary Catherine was born.

County Ohio in 1838 (per article on
their son John, in "The Complete

The 1840 census of Franklin Township,
Wayne County Ohio lists a William
Amerman and what appears to be
William and Eliza's family.
(Their youngest child Ellen Ann
was born in Ohio in 1846).

Ohio, to St. Joseph County Indiana
in 1849 (per same article on son
John as mentioned above).
[They must have meant to say that
they moved to "Indiana" in 1849,
because
the 1850 census shows them living
in Richland, Fulton County Indiana].

Wm. and Eliza A. Amerman and their
youngest daughter Ellen Ann are
living in Warren Township,
St. Joseph County Indiana
(South Bend post office).
William is listed as 57 years of age.
Also living with them is their
daughter Mary Catherine and her
husband James Kizer Sr. and three
of their daughters children.

in St. Joseph County Indiana.
William was buried in the
Witter Cemetery, in South Bend,
St. Joseph County Indiana
(between children of the "Kizer" family)

son-in-law James Kizer Sr.
William is buried next to Marcellus
D. Kizer, born in 1854 and died in
German Twp. on June 21, 1861 at
7 years, 3 months, and 22 days.
Marcellus was the son of Abraham Force
Kizer and his wife Caroline Hoffimer
Kizer (A. F. & C. Kizer).
Abraham F. Kizer was the brother of
Mary Catherine Ammerman's husband,
James Kizer Sr.
Also buried next to William
is Franklin Kizer (possibly
Benjamin Franklin Kizer), who died
March 15, 1864 at 1 year, 9 months
and 22 days, the son of
Elmer O. Kizer and his wife Elizabeth
Annastisha Kizer (E. & E. A. Kizer).
Elmer is the son of Jesse P. Kizer,
who was also a brother of Mary Catherine
Ammerman's husband James Kizer Sr.

The Witter Cemetery has been declared
an "Historic Landmark", by the Historic
Preservation Commission of St. Joseph
County Indiana and the County Council.

The Witter Cemetery is located on the
N.-N.W. side of South Bend, Indiana. It
is on the North side of Cleveland Road
(between Portage Rd. & Lynnwood Ave.),
in German Township, St. Joseph County,
Indiana, a short distance East of
the Hamilton Church Cemetery
(where his wife Eliza Ann is buried,
near their son Abraham and his family).

in Somerset County, New Jersey.

Hannah Mariah Patrick, the daughter
of Robert Patrick and Catherine Ann
Keyser, in St. Joseph County Indiana,
per: "Marriage Records, St. Joseph Co.
IN Vol. IV-VI 1855-1873", located in
the Indiana State Library genealogy
department in Indianapolis, Indiana.
John and Hannah had ten children.
John and Hannah moved to Berrien County
Michigan about 1866, and then moved to
Sullivan County Missouri in 1869
(per article on John A. Amerman, in
"The Complete History of Sullivan
County Missouri, Volume 1, 1836-1900").
He located 8 miles South of Green City,
Missouri, and accquired 160 acres of
land. He was a Republican and cast his
first vote for Lincoln. He and his wife
were Methodists.
John and Hannah were living in Union
Township, Sullivan County Missouri
at the time of the 1870 census,
with four of their children.
d. Feb. 15, 1916 (per: both his
death certificate, and
Pleasantville Cemetery records).
John died at the age of 79 years,
1 month and 12 days,
from cancer of the bowel,
in Green City, (Union Township),
Sullivan County Missouri.
Buried: Pleasantville Cemetery
(formerly known as
"Dantown cemetery"), one mile West
of Mystic, in Sullivan Co. Missouri.
Note: His death certificate states
that he was widowed, that his
occupation was a farmer, and that
his parents were William Ammerman
and Eliza Schank [Schenck].
Note: The surname on his death
certificate and in cemetery records
is spelled as "Ammerman".

b. July 25, 1846, in Wayne Co. Ohio.
She is listed as living with her
parents (age 14) in the 1860 census of
Warren Twp., St. Joseph Co. Indiana.
m. Nov. 26 (or 25), 1866 to
James Randolph Burruss, the son of
James A. Burruss and Jennett Holmes,
in Bertrand, Berrien County Michigan.
(James was born Jan. 15, 1838 in Ohio,
and died May 07, 1893 in Taylor Co. KY).
Their children are:
1. Francis Weldie b. Nov. 7, 1867.
2. Iva (or Elva) Janette b.July 13, 1871.
3. William Dorrance b. Nov. 18, 1873.
Ellen died on May 22 or 23, 1875,
in Sullivan County Missouri
(at the age of 28 years, 9 months
and 28 or 29 days).
