Rosalie F. Romero, age 73, a lifetime resident of Chacon, N.M. passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Chacon, N.M., on May 24, 1934, to the late Juan Gallegos and Bernardita Romero Gallegos.
She was united in marriage in Mora, N.M., on Nov. 4, 1949 to Alfonso Romero.
She retired from the N.M. State University Branch in Mora where she was employed as Nutrition Aid for 20 years. She formerly worked for 5 years as a bus driver for the Mora/San Miguel Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed going to the casino, dancing, participated at the Day Services Caridad de San Antonio, loved cooking, playing cards and spending time with her family.
A lifetime Catholic, she was a member of the St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Juan and Bernardita Gallegos; brother: Eliseo Gallegos; sisters: Oralia Vigil, Alice Duran and Eloisa Duran; sons: Alfonso Romero, Jr. and Manuel Romero.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years: Alfonso Romero of the family home in Chacon, N.M.; sons: Jerry Romero and wife Mary of Las Vegas, N.M. and Herman Romero and wife Lizzie of El Queso, N.M.; daughter: Bernadette Romero of the family home in Chacon, N.M.; daughter-in-law: Mary Romero of Chacon, N.M.; grandchildren: Jerriette Romero and fiancee Andrew of Las Cruces, N.M., Julio Romero of Las Vegas, N.M., Hope Romero and companion Albert of El Queso, Billie Jo Romero of Pennsylvania, Charlene Maes and husband Antonio of Cleveland, N.M., Meagan Romero, Emilio Romero and Lizzette Romero all of El Queso, N.M., Manuel Romero, Jr. and wife Sandra of Las Quebraditas, N.M., Matthew Romero and companion Jessica of Mora, N.M., Mario Romero and wife LouElla and Marcus Romero and companion Mariam all of Rio Rancho, N.M.; great-grandchildren: Isiah Cuevas, Patrick Fernandez, Savannah and Louis Maes, Ryan and Keith Romero, Dominic Romero, Derrick and Donovan Romero, Samantha and Kristin Romero; sister: Adelia Romero and husband Ralph of California; brother: Johnny Gallegos and wife Margaret of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brother-in-law: Manuel Romero of Guadalupita, N.M.; sister-in-law: Rosa Vigil of Massachusetts; numerous: god-children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, N.M. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at the St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, N.M. with Father James Sanchez and Father John McHugh as celebrants. Interment will follow at the San Antonio Cemetery in Chacon with the following serving as casket bearers: Dino Gallegos, Martin Romero, Dennis Montoya, Oliver Vigil, Gene Romero and Matthew Martinez. Serving as honorary bearers will be: Manuel Romero, Jr., Matthew Romero, Mario Romero, Marcus Romero, Julio Romero and Emilio Romero.
