Inscription on tombstone:
"Farewell, my wife and children all,
From you a father Christ doeth call;
Mourn not for me, it is in vain,
To call me to your sight again."
William Carver Beard was born and raised in Cumberland Co., North Carolina. In the early 1830s, Neill Beard moved his family to Tallahatchie Co., Mississippi.
William lived there for a short time until he moved to Texas. Apparently he married Mary Jane May, daughter of Robert Booker May and Tabitha Allen Johnston May, in the mid 1830s and they moved to Texas. They lived in Montgomery and Jefferson Counties, until they moved to Williamson County in the mid 1850s, where they raised their children and lived out the rest of their lives.
