Herman Lee Aycock, 77, of Laurel, died Monday, November 26, 2007, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. at Hickory Grove Cemetery on Thursday, November 29, 2007. The Revs. Kent Miller and Jarrod Harris will officiate.
He was a member of West Ellisville Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He retired as police chief with the City of Laurel in 1976. He was the first motorcycle policeman with the city of Laurel, he was the first officer friendly and came up through the ranks to become police chief. He was a member of the Mississippi Tennessee Officers Association. He was a member of FOP. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1994 and was a member of N.A.L.C. U.S. Postal Service. A member of Dixie Golf Club, he served in the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Ratcliff Aycock of Ellisville; daughter and son-in-law, Leesanne A. Holifield and Howard Holifield of Ellisville; son and daughter-in-law, David W. Aycock and Holly Aycock of Lexington, S. C.; two grandchildren, Lesley B. Aycock of Spartanburg, S. C. and Joshua R. Holifield of Ellisville; two sisters, Betty Lou Wade and husband Aubrey Wade of Lake Arthur, La. and Mary Ann Harp of Gilroy, Calif.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8:30 p.m. this evening at Memory Chapel.
Pallbearers will be the Laurel Police Department. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Wade, Mike Pierce, Billy Guy, Tommy Segrest III, and members of his Sunday School Class, along with Pastor David Allen.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to West Ellisville Baptist Church building fund.
Memory Chapel is in charge of services.
