Hannah Hegsted Wells Rose was released from her mortal body on July 26, 2005 at her home in St. George, Utah after a long life of love and service to family and community. She was born March 26, 1909 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the only daughter and third child of Victor and Hannah Grover Hegsted.
Schooled in Victor, Idaho, as well as Salt Lake City, Hannah graduated from the University of Utah in Home Economics in 1931 and then took a teaching position at Hurricane High School. There she met and fell in love with George Wells. They were married in Salt Lake City in December of 1933 and sealed in the St. George Temple in May of the following year.
In addition to raising four sons and serving faithfully in the Church, Hannah worked for a number of years as a County Home Management Supervisor for the Farm Security Administration while George farmed. She joined the faculty at Dixie High School and Dixie College when her boys were old enough to be at school, teaching Biology, Foods and Nutrition and Home Economics for 20 years. She was a beloved teacher who influenced the lives of many young students by her skills, as well as her warmth and caring. Like her Mormon pioneer women ancestors, she balanced her family and community/school responsibilities with service in many callings in the Church, including ward Relief Society president and temple worker.
When George died in 1966, Hannah carried on the family responsibilities alone for 18 years.
She met Horace Rose in 1984 and married him in December of that year, adding another wonderful family to her circle of loved ones. She and Horace lived in Bountiful and in St. George until his passing in 1991. She loved the time in Bountiful making new friends, renewing old acquaintances in her Delta Zeta Sorority, and attending U of U athletic events.
Hannah was preceded in death by her brothers Marion, Rulon, and Karl, her husbands George Wells and Horace Rose, and her youngest son, Scott. Through her sons and beloved daughters-in-law, Mark and Marian, Gawain and Gayle, Gary and Marsha, Scott and Jillyn, she leaves a posterity now numbering over 100 who love her and call her blessed. With her marriage to Horace Rose came an extended family which included Robert and Mary Ann Page Gilliland and her children.

Funeral services will be held in the St. George Main Street Chapel, Friday, July 29, 2005, 2 p.m. Viewings will take place from 7-8 p.m., Thursday evening at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd and from 1-1:45 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221.
