John R. Keefer, 67, of Medina, Ohio, passed away on November 11, 2007, in Seville.

He was born September 19, 1940, in Charleroi, Pa.

Mr. Keefer started his teaching career in 1966 in Ashland City Schools. In 1968, he moved to Medina City School District becoming one of the first OWA Coordinators in the State of Ohio. He retired from Medina High School in 1996.

He was a member of the Medina Teachers Association, Ohio Education Association and the National Education Association. He was a member of Medina United Methodist Church.

He attended North Union High School in Uniontown, Pa. and graduated from Ashland College playing all-star football for both school programs. He enjoyed football, basketball, baseball and was a die-hard Steelers fan in Browns country.

He is survived by sisters: Karen Aber of Ashland, Ohio, Judy (Jerry) Gunderson of Deerfield Beach, Fla. and Becky (Dune) Grove of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; brother, Al (Willa) Keefer of Port Orange and Palm Coast, Fla.; nephews: Steve (Michelle) Aber of Ashland, Ohio, Scott Aber of Ashland, Ohio, Shawn (Nicki) Aber of Ashland, Ohio and Jeff Gunderson of Fla.; nieces: Jamie (Price) Gunderson of Fla., Kasey Keefer of Fla. and Whitney Keefer of Fla.; nephew, Keefer John Grove of Fla.; great-nephews: Jackson Aber, Arlin Gunderson and Jordon Gunderson and a great-niece, Katie Boyle; special friends: Jim and Linda Lavery of Medina.

Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Keefer (nee Kimmel), an infant daughter, parents, John and Irene Keefer and brother-in-law, Larry Aber.

Services will be on Friday at 1 p.m. in the WAITE & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 765 North Court Street, Medina, Ohio, with the Rev. Dr. David Tennant officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park, Ashland, Ohio. Visitation will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
