Eddie Dee Abeyta, 59, father of Wendy and Audrey Abeya, and son of Eddie L. and Emma A. Abeyta, died Sunday, November 11, 2007 in Alamogordo.
Eddie was born September 25, 1948 in Alamogordo and grew up in Bent and Tularosa. He graduated from Tularosa High School and attended the University of New Mexico. In 1976 he accepted a position in Santa Fe as Pipeline Director for the State Corporation Commission and later retired from state government as the Bureau Chief of the Department of Motor Vehicles. He was a member of St. Joseph's Apache Mission, Army National Guard, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Abeyta, and Audrey Franco and her husband Jose, all of Santa Fe; his mother Emma Abeyta of Bent; and a sister Eva Abeyta of Alamogordo.
He was preceded in death by his father Eddie L. Abeyta in 2005.
Eddie worked hard all his life to support his family and to instill strong values in his daughters.
A vigil service will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa with the Rosary to be recited by Josie and Matias Chavez.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in the church on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Father Paul Botenhagen, O.F.M. as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Tularosa.
Pallbearers will be Alex Candelaria, Sonny Vega, Lloyd Garcia, Albino Zuniga, Leo Aguilar, and Roy Devara.
