Mrs. Lena Lockwood, 78, Widow of Banker, Dies

Mrs. Lena Lockwood, 78, widow of Philo J. Lockwood, attorney and one of the organizers of the National Capital Bank, died yesterday at her home, 5521 Colorado avenue N.W., after an illness of several months.

She was born in Wilmington, N.C., and came to Washington as a child. She had been an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than half a century. For 20 years she had served as superintendent of its cradle roll department, and at one time was a teacher in the primary department.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Helen Lockwood Smith, on the faculty at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn; Mrs. Veta L. Watson, 3719 Cumberland street N.W., and a son, Carl J. Lockwood, San Francisco.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the S. H. Hines funeral home, 2901 Fourteenth street N.W., with the Rev. C. W. Cranford, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.
