Mrs. Evangeline L. Hicks, 87, of Harrisburg departed this life Friday evening, Nov. 9, at Jonesboro.

She was born Jan. 18, 1920, at Jonesboro, the daughter of Lionel T. Lyons and Louise Schenk Lyons. She was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy at Jonesboro and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Weiner.

She married L.T. "Tom" Hicks in June 1947 and they enjoyed 38 years together before his death in 1985. She and Tom owned and operated Hicks Grocery Store in Harrisburg for more than 32 years.

She was a former member of the Garden Club and enjoyed cooking, plants, flowers and bird watching.

In addition to her parents and husband, Tom, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Biggs.

She is survived by four daughters, Sandy Hicks and Tommye McNamara, both of Jonesboro, Lynette Ward of Milton, Fla., and Tricia Hicks of Memphis; sister, Pat Harlan of Richmond, Ind.; three grandchildren, Jason Gardner, Clint Biggs and Brynn Biggs; and three great-grandchildren, Chelsea Gardner, Walker Gardner and Kayna Gardner.

Funeral services were held in the Weston Funeral Service Chapel at Harrisburg. Interment was in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
