PARKERSBURG - Betty E. Atkinson, 85, of Parkersburg died March 27, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Carl W. and Jennie Mae Traugh Thirouin, and was a 1937 graduate of Parkersburg High School.

She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 14, Oriental Shrine of North America Chapter 3, Parkersburg South Gideon Camp Auxiliary and Dorcas Circle of American Women. She was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church for 57 years, where she was in the Believers Sunday School Class.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Janice E. Rowan and her husband, Kenneth, of Lowell, Ohio, and Penny S. Bennett and her husband, Les, of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Angela K. Stuckert and her husband, Dr. Robert, Jenny Bennett, Sara Bennett and William A. Bennett; two great-grandchildren, Michael R. Stuckert and Matthew R. Stuckert; and one brother, Wilford E. Thirouin of Ellington, Fla.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Atkinson; one son, Richard W. Atkinson; granddaughters, Tammy Sue Rowan and Cindy Rowan; and one brother, Raymond M. Thirouin.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the South Parkersburg Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe Bush officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
