Ken Lee, 89, of Buffalo, S.D. passed away quietly at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.
Services to honor his passing will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 in St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Russ Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, with Military Graveside Honors to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. Donations may be made in Ken's memory to St. Luke's Episcopal Church in care of the Adams Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams St., Buffalo.
Kenneth Marvin Lee was born on March 5, 1918 in Pine Ridge, to James and Grace Lee. He grew up in Denby, S.D. and graduated from Denby High School in 1936. After high school he attended Wahpeton Business College in Wahpeton, N.D. for two years. After college he worked at the Pine Ridge Indian Agency as a purchasing agent.
He was married on May 10, 1941 in Alliance, Neb., to Rebecca Furze and they made their home in Pine Ridge.
Ken joined the U.S. Air Force in October of 1942 and served as a navigator in B-24 Bombers serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He flew missions in Central Burma, India Burma and the China Defense. During WWII Captain Ken Lee received three Bronze Stars for meritorious service.
After the war he returned to Lead, where he was a court reporter. Becky and Ken lived and raised their family in Lead until his retirement in 1982. They continued living in Lead until 1991 when they moved to Buffalo where they lived until the time of his death. He had been a resident of the Amie Holt Care Center for the past four years.
Ken was a member of Kiwanis and served as their State President.
In his younger years he was a baseball player and loved softball, bowling and was a cribbage champion.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rebecca J. Lee of Buffalo; one daughter, Emily Whipple and her husband Don of Buffalo; one son David Lee and his wife Joan of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
