Roger Graber-Hayes was the only child born to Willard Pershing Graber (1918-1988) and his first wife Mae Houser (1923-1989). In 1945, his parents divorced; and in 1947 his mother married Raymond Elbert Hayes (1920-1995), who adopted Roger soon afterwards. Roger was the half-brother of Bruce Gerald "Jerry" Hayes (1945-), Sharolyn Iva (Graber) Rush (1948-1970), and Marla Jean (Graber-Porter) York (1952-2007).

On the 4 February 1961, Roger married Terrill "Terri" Lenea Evans in McKinleyville, Humboldt Co., California. Roger and Terri had six children between 1964 and 1986: Timothy, Trevor, Tucker, Tricia, Tatum, and Tobias ("Toby"). Although he was not a practicing member of the Jehovah's Witnesses faith, his wife, Terri, was and all of their children were raised in this faith as well.

Roger passed away at the age of fifty five. He was survived by his wife, his six children, and their families.
