VERLEE DUFFEE BOWLES, daughter
of Golbert Duffee (7 Feb 1887-
28 Oct 1956) and Alma Hamilton
(6 Dec 1893-30 Nov 1975). She
grew up in Red River County,
Texas, one of six children.
She married Curtis Bowles
(1904-1986) Dec. 1940. They
had two Sons, Lonnie Gilbert
Bowles (1942-2003) and Tommy
Glynn Bowles, 1946. Verlee and
Curtis farmed and raised their
sons in Sand Flat, Smith,Texas.

CURT AND VERLEE'S WEDDING

Curt had spent Thanksgiving
and Christmas Holidays with
his sister,Vassie Scott and
family in Clarksville, Red
River County.

While there, he met their
neighbor, Verlee Duffee,
and for Curt, it was 'love
at first sight'. She was a
shy,sweet young girl with big
brown eyes and dark brown hair.
But it was time for Curt to go
back to Smith County. Our main
reason for making the trip was
to get Curtis back home. So,
We took the opportunity to
have a family gathering.

Cars were weren't plentiful
back then, but my Dad had an
old Model A Ford. Passengers
in the car included my dad,
Henry Mack Ginn, mother,
Maurine Bowles Ginn, Curt's
younger sister, Beatrice
Bowles Warren, her two
children Bobby Joe 10,
Robbie Opal, 8 and ME,
Sherrie Ann Ginn, age 5!
(3 adults & 3 Kids)!
It rained and stormed the whole
way. Most of the roads were
MUD! Up to the running board.
The trip was very SLOW! At
one point, it was lightning
and thundering and the rain
was coming down so hard you
couldn't see past the front
of the car. I saw an
abandoned house that was
falling down and I begged
my dad to stop and let us
go in. Of Course, we didn't
and the trip was finally over.

We had a nice visit with my
Aunt Vassie & Uncle Joe Ben Scott.
We met Verlee and all of us fell
in love with her. Aunt Bee and
Maurine decided that Verlee would
be "good for Curt" etc. Verlee said
"Yes" and her family gave their
consent.

We stopped in Clarksville for the
Wedding.

NOW! 5 adults and 3 kids made the
trip home in that Model A Ford!
