Gladys McNiel Chaney, of Moody, went to be with her Heavenly family Oct. 30, 2007, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Moody First Methodist Church with the Rev. Laraine Waughtal officiating. Interment will follow in Moody Cemetery under the direction of Cole Chapel, 304 Eighth Street, Moody. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cole Chapel.

Gladys was born in Moody, Texas, to the late John and Mertie Dee (Lawson) McNiel Sr. In 1945, she graduated from Moody High School. She then began a blissful journey through life when she married Gene Lavon Chaney on March 28, 1946, in Moody. Gladys was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be terribly missed by her family and friends. She was a religious lady who was proud of her relationship with God as she was a member of Moody First United Methodist Church and the Challengers Class.

Preceding her in death was a brother, John McNiel, Jr.; and a sister, Peggy Horstman.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Lavon Chaney, of Moody; daughter, Jeannie Sebastian Satterwhite and husband, John, of Spring; son, Rick Miller-Chaney and wife, Kerry, of Temple; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
