Company K 3rd GA Regiment
Confederate States Army
Civil War Confederate Soldier. This southerner heard the call to arms from his Clarke County, Georgia residence, and on April 25, 1861 he answered by enlisting as a Private into Company K, 3rd Georgia Infantry. On July 2, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Private Locklin stepped off Seminary Ridge with his fellow Georgians to assault the Federal center on Cemetery Ridge. When he and his comrades neared their adversaries along the Emmitsburg Road, they unleashed a "demoniac yell". These Confederates were instantly raked with a torrent of Federal lead. A Union infantryman remembered the damage to the Georgians as "one of the most destructive volleys I ever witness…they hesitated, then reeled, they staggered and wavered slightly, yet there was no panic." Onward the Confederates pushed, only to receive further attrition by Union artillery. Federal gunners timed their fuses by cutting them "at three, two, and one second" which was followed by "canister at point blank range, and finally, double canister…" Private Locklin was amid this hellish setting when, at a fateful moment, he was felled with a mortal wound. He lingered until his death on July 9, 1863.

Military records indicate his name as both Minor and Miror. Census records indicate the spelling of his name as Mirabo B L Locklin. Family records continue to reflect the same spelling as shown in the census. Before Mirabo met his fateful day at Gettysburg, one of his sisters, Sarah, named one of her children Mirabo.
