Was a chief of the Fox or Mesquakie tribe which resided in the Iowa area. During 1831, he fought in the Black Hawk War against the United States. Following the war Joc-O-Sot made his way east to Cleveland in the early 1830's. Here he began leading hunting and fishing expeditions. He made the acquaintance of a theater promotor, Dan Marble. He joined Marble's theatrical group, touring various cities performing in plays which represented Native American life. In 1844 Joc-O-Sot traveled with the company to England and was received in audience by Queen Victoria. Joc-O-Sot fell ill while in England and, on his own, returned to Cleveland where he died.
