Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He entered the Civil War as a Private in the 10th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, which was a 3-month enlistment unit. After his service in that regiment, he received a US Volunteers commission, and served as the Provost Marshal General of the Department of the Tennessee with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Finally, he was appoitned Colonel and commander of the 29th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 22, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services during the War". He died in Galveston, Texas in 1867 at age 28.
