Miriam Hatch Tuttle 1910 ~ 2007
Treasured Mother of three, grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 25, passed gently into Jesus' presence and Tut's arms on September 21, 2007. During her final days she was surrounded by her family and many friends at home in Salt Lake.Miriam was born in Scipio, UT, June 12, 1910, to Marvin Muir Hatch and Freda Henrietta Olsen. She attended elementary and middle school in Scipio and then moved to Salt Lake City and lived at the Beehive House while attending Cosmetology school. After graduating she began her career as a beautician working at two of the most prestigious beauty shops in Salt Lake. During her working time in Salt Lake she met the handsome Mervin Tuttle and they were married November 8, 1934, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Within the first two years of the marriage, Miriam and Tut were transferred to Price, UT with Tut's company, Conoco. Paul was born in 1936 before the move and Preston and Tami were born in 1941 and 1945 respectively in Price. During the ensuing 40 odd years Conoco moved them to Ogden, UT, for just nine months, then back to Salt Lake, to Orem, UT, Spokane, WA, Denver, CO and finally again to Salt Lake in 1976. Miriam handled each move as a seasoned drill sergeant and all aspects were meticulously planned and executed. When chaos reigned she brought calm. She was Tut's Home Executive! At each location she was constantly involved in the matters of her faith and church, serving in the Relief Society, Primary, and helping Tut with his many duties at various callings in each Ward they joined, as well as the over 400 Personalized Christmas Stockings she hand knitted for family and friends of her family. They retired from Conoco in 1977 to love and cherish grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her adoration of family and a nurturing nature showed in the constant parade of children thru her house. Each person was treated as kin, whether they were kin or not. All were given love, affection and something wonderful to eat. There is a long list of people around this country who still refer to her as simply "Mom Tuttle" or "Mighty Merna."
She is survived by sons, Paul Tuttle (Lenora), of Pottsboro, TX, Preston Tuttle (Laura), Chandler, AZ, and Tamara Tuttle Binns, (Richard) SLC, UT, sisters Beth Warner and Esther Memmott (Chester). She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mervin Andrew Tuttle (Tut), her parents Marv and Freda, sisters Gladys Stone, Ethel Robins, Donna Neilson, Marva Shepherd, and brother Lloyd Hatch.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2007 in the LDS Parley's 4th Ward Chapel, located at 1870 East Parley's Canyon Blvd. (2315 S) Salt Lake City, UT, where friends may visit from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT.
