Gen. John Carson, an aged and esteemed citizen of Rutherford county, died on the 24th ult. Gen. Carson represented Rutherford county for several years in the Legislature.

I John Carson of the County of Rutherford and State of North Carolina being advanced in life but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of the body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament.
And first of all I recommend my soul to Almighty God who gave it, and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent christian like manner at the discretion of Executors and as touching such worldly estate as I am possessed of I gave and bequeath in the following manner.
That is I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Carson all my Estate both real and personal after discharging my lawful debt, to her during her natural life and should she out live me, I allow her to have at her own disposal all our house hold and kitchen furniture of every description and when we are both dead, I allow my plantation to be divided and disposed of as follows. Beginning at Francis Logans line at Earlys ditch and running with said ditch to the road then with the road to the bridge across the creek thence up the creek to Cochrans line all on the East of these forever I give and bequeath to my son William P. Carson - And then from the aforesaid bridge up the lane to an apple tree about one hundred yards south east from my dwelling house, which tree I allow to be a corner and from thence running north twenty degrees east seventy poles thence due west to Baldridges line all my lands north of these bounds I give and bequeath to my son George W. Carson, and the remainder of my plantation including my dwelling house I give and bequeath to my son Oliver P. Carson, allowing George W. and Oliver P Carson each of them to pay my daughter, Isabella C. Carson one hundred and twenty five dollar. I have heretofore made a deed of gift of a negro girl named Julia Ann to my daughter Isabella C. Carson which I ratify and confirm all this.

Also give and bequeath to my grand son Henry K. Smart one horse and saddle worth ninety dollars and one cow and calf. There is a deed in 1800, Robert Sellers of Burke Co. is the grantor. It refers to land granted to John Carson by his Majesty in 1765. Col. John Carson, a cotton farmer and a Revolutionary War soldier, was born in Ireland to James and Rebecca Carson. John, father of Joseph McDowell Carson, lived in Burke Co. Joseph had mail at the Rutherfordton P. O. 1830 - 1835. They owned a gold mine near Morganton, NC. There are descendants of this Carson line that were born in Rutherford Co. So, not all Carsons of Rutherford Co. are closely related.
In the 1800 census there is 1 male 26-45, 1 male 10-16, 3 males under 10, 1 female 26-45, and 2 females under age 10.

According to "History of ... Rutherford County ..." by Griffin pg 408, General John Carson moved into Rutherford County before the Revolution and settled on Second Broad River.
Kenyon Withrow in the Heritage of Rutherford County states John and Mary raised a large family at their home on Little Camp Creek near Brittain Church.
John was also the President of the Little Brittain Temperance Society Auxiliary to the American Temperance Society.

There is a deed in 1800, Robert Sellers of Burke Co. is the grantor. It refers to land granted to John Carson by his Majesty in 1765. Col. John Carson, a cotton farmer and a Revolutionary War soldier, was born in Ireland to James and Rebecca Carson. John, father of Joseph McDowell Carson, lived in Burke Co. Joseph had mail at the Rutherfordton P. O. 1830 - 1835. They owned a gold mine near Morganton, NC. There are descendants of this Carson line that were born in Rutherford Co. So, not all Carsons of Rutherford Co. are closely related.
In the 1800 census there is 1 male 26-45, 1 male 10-16, 3 males under 10, 1 female 26-45, and 2 females under age 10.
The 1810 census - 2m under 10, 1m 10-16, 2m 16-26, 1m 26-45, 3f under 10, 2f 10-16, 1f 16-26, and 1f 26-45; plus one slave.
1820 Rutherford census - 2m under 10, 1m 16-26, 1m 45 and over, 1f under 10, 1f 10-16, 1f 16-26, 1f 45 and over; plus 2f slaves.
1830 Rutherford census - 1m under 5, 2m 15-20, 2m 30-40, 1m 60-70, 1f 15-20, 2f 20-30, and 1f 50-60; plus 1m and 2f slaves.
NOTE: Upon reading the original handwritten will of General John C. Carson, an error was noted in the Rutherford Court Clerk's transcription of his will (Book E pg 165). The clerk entered Thomas for the given name of neighbor Logan. That is incorrect. The given name of neighbor Logan was Francis, according to the original NC Archive handwritten will. Francis Logan did reside in Rutherford County.
